Top cop to probe human-trafficking

National police chief Somyot Pumpunmuang has assigned one of his deputies, Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda, to head a special police team to investigate human trafficking in the South after the discovery of a mass grave in Songkhla province on Saturday.

 Provincial Police Bureaus and work with local police to resolve the case.

All police officers handling the case had been reminded that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, who is in charge of security affairs, had attached the highest importance to the case, the police chief said.

He added that all of those found to have been involved in human-trafficking, be they government officials or influential persons, would be subject to severe legal action because the matter had greatly affected the country's reputation.
