Five rangers were wounded, two seriously, by a bomb explosion while on patrol in Waeng district of Narathiwat province on Monday, police said.

Pol Col Suthavej Tharithai, chief of Waeng police, said they were in a six-wheel truck with other soldiers from the 11th Ranger Regiment. As it was passing Kueso village on the Waeng-Sukhirin road a home-made bomb planted on the roadside was detonated.

Five rangers were wounded, two of them seriously.

The bomb slightly damaged the truck, and left a crater 90cm in diameter and 80cm deep in the road.
