Southern authorities today condemned the killing of a Yala couple who were killed when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle and set it on fire.
Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman for the Region 4 Internal Security Operations Command, told a press this morning that 4th Army units are looking for the killers who shot Sanphet Kanchanathep, 42, and his wife Nopparat, 37, while they were returning to their home in Yala's Muang district around 5.10pm Wednesday.
Pol Lt Bundhit Sada, the duty officer at Bannang Sata police station, said that as the couple's white Chevrolet pickup truck was passing through Tanyong village in tambon Bacho of Bannang Sata district gunmen opened fire from ambush, killing both of them. The attackers dragged their bodies from the truck, set them alight and fled.
Speaking at Sirindhorn Camp in Pattani's Yarang district, Col Pramote said army chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr had ordered the Region 4 Isoc to provide assistance to the victims' family.
