A defence volunteer who was seriously wounded by gunmen in Mayo district late on Tuesday night died Wednesday morning at Pattani Hospital, police said.
Aduenan Chedo, 35, of Ban Nam Sai in Pattani's Mayo district, was returning home on a motorcycle after being relieved of duty at a village sentry box when a small group of assailants opened fire at him with M16 rifles. The attack occurred about 11.30pm.
He was seriously wounded and admitted to Pattani Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Pol Lt Kammalas Tuatinson, a Mayo police investigator, said police recovered about 100 spent M16 bullet cases at the scene.
