Man killed, wife wounded in Pattani attack

A man was killed and his wife seriously wounded by a motorcycle gunman in Nong Chik district of Pattani province on Thursday morning, police said.

Pol Col Chamlong Suwannalak, the Nong Chik police chief, said while Pornpipat Yodying, 28, and his wife Areerat Maneerat, 29, were travelling on a motorcycle from their home to work in Pattani township along Yala-Pattani road and were followed by two men on another motorcycle.

Near Moo 1 village in tambon Lipa Sango, the pillion rider of the other motorbike opened fire at them with a handgun.  Pornpipat was hit three times in the body and died on the spot, while his wife was hit once in the left arm.  Mrs Areerat was admitted to Nong Chik Hospital.

Police were investigating, but suspect insurgents were to blame.
