A volunteer ranger was killed in a gun attack in Narathiwat's Cho Airong district on Sunday, police said.
Pol Col Prawit Choseng, the Cho Airong police chief, said the incident occurred at 11am on a road in Luboyo village in Tambon Chuap.
While Chaisit Malai, 30, was returning home on a motorcycle from a plantation, the pillion rider of another motorcycle that had followed him for some time opened fire at him with an AK47 rifle, killing him instantly.
His body, riddled with AK47 bullets, and his motorcycle were left on the road until police arrived to investigate.
