GSB to open branches in deep South

The state-owned Government Savings Bank will open branches in seven districts of the three troubled southern border provinces where there is no single bank operating at the moment.

The new branches will be opened in three districts of Yala — Kabang, Krong Pinang and Than To. Three more will open in Pattani in Mae Laen, Kapho and Thung Yang Daeng districts.

The seventh location was in Cho Airong district of Narathiwat, GSB president Chartchai Payahanaveechai said on Wednesday.

The branches will be housed in district offices for safety reasons and open three days a week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 3pm.

Mr Chartchai said the bank recently opened a branch on Koh Kut island off Trat province.

Once the GSB branches are up and running in the seven districts, that will mean all 787 districts in the country will have financial institutes to offer services to residents, Mr Chartchai said.
