Rubber tapper slain in Yala

A rubber tapper was shot dead at a rubber plantation in Yaha district of Yala province on Tuesday morning, police said.

Leela Kalong, wife of Suktha Baka, 31, of Moo 2 village in tambon Patae, told police that she and her husband left their home on on a motorcycle in the morning to work at a rubber plantation at Ban Yang Tiang.

When they arrived a group of men opened fire at them, hitting her husband in the head and the body, killing him instantly.

She was not hurt in the attack, the woman said.

Police  investigating the incident said Suktha was once a suspect in an insurgency-related case and a supporter of the separatist movement. He reported to a government centre in Yala to show his sincerity on March 31, 2012.
