41 dead after suicide bombers attack Chad market

N'DJAMMENA - At least 41 people died after suicide bombers attacked a weekly market in the town of Baga Sola in Chad on Saturday afternoon, a government minister said.

The dead included five suicide bombers - one man, two women and two children, Chadian Communications Minister Hassan Sylla Bakari said in a statement.

"The situation is completely under control," Bakari added.

Bakari called on the public to be "more vigilant against this cowardly sect that uses women and children for terrorist actions."

Earlier this month 11 Chadian soldiers were killed and 13 others injured in an attack by elements of the terrorist sect Boko Haram based in neighboring Nigeria.

Boko Haram, which has pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State, has stepped up attacks in Nigeria and northern Cameroon in recent weeks, since Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari took office in May.

The group, which seeks to establish a state with the strictest interpretation of Islamic law, has killed thousands of people in the region.
