3 cops, 1 drug suspect wounded in Narathiwat ambush

Three police officers and a drug suspect were shot and wounded when assailants ambushed a police pickup truck in Narathiwat’s Rueso district on Wednesday.

The police vehicle was en route to Narathiwat Provincial Court to seek approval to detain the suspect when an unknown number of gunmen opened fire from the roadside in tambon Rueso Nok, said Pol Lt Col Ratthapol Wanna, a senior police investigator at Rueso police station, who was reported at 9.30am today.

Pol Lt Col Pongsakorn Khemrat, Pol Lt Uthai Panthong, driver Pol Snr Sgt Maj Thaweesak Chuayram and the 30-year-old drug suspect were wounded and rushed to a nearby hospital. 

A  police investigation showed the attackers sprayed M16 bullets at the police vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and skid off the road.

Police were investigating.
