YALA -- Two members of a village security team were injured in a gun attack in Muang district on Saturday night, police said.

The incident occurred at 7pm on the road to Ban Sikhong in tambon Lammai of Muang district.  

While Wijin Boontharik and Anan Boontharik were returning to the village in a pickup truck, their vehicle was attacked by a number of militants hiding on the roadsides with military-grade weapons.

Mr Wijin was hit in the right leg while Mr Anan took a bullet to the left ribcage. They were admitted to Yala Hospital.

The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes and the windshield shattered.

Police aere investigating.
