Officer killed, another injured in Songkhla blast

A police officer was killed and a colleague injured in a bomb blast in Songkhla province Monday.

The bomb went off outside Chana railway station in tambon Ban Na of Chana district about 5.30pm. The explosion killed Pol Capt Yodchay Boonsong and wounded Pol Sen Sgt Maj Amnart Chalipol, both from Chana police station.

Police sealed off the area to allow explosive ordinance disposal personnel to examine the scene.

An initial investigation found the bomb was hidden in a motorcycle parked in front of the railway station.

The bomb was detonated by insurgents while both officers were passing by while on a regular patrol in the station's car park.

A pickup truck belonging to Chana police, two motorcycles of residents and the facade of the railway station were damaged in the blast.
