PATTANI - Two ranger volunteers were wounded when their patrol was attacked with grenades in Kapho district on Thursday night - the 12th anniversary of the bloody Krue Se incident in this strife-torn southern province.

The ranger unit was patrolling the road in front of Ba-ngoyuebeng School in tambon Karubee when they were ambushed around 7pm.

Several M79 grenades were fired at them, said Pol Capt Pimuk Khongprasert, a duty officer at Kapho police station.

The attack wounded ranger volunteers Supawat Banchuen and Yodrak Duennate. They were rushed to Kapho Hospital.

Military commanders had earlier ordered all military units to increase security, particularly at military outposts which were known targets of insurgent attacks.
