YALA - A soldier was wounded when an improvised bomb detonated as a paramilitary patrol was patrolling near a rubber plantation in Bannang Sata district on Tuesday evening.

The bomb, stuffed in a pipe and hidden on a local road through a rubber plantation in tambon Tuera, exploded when an eight-member patrol team passed the spot about  5.20pm, said police.

Pvt Theerapol Natethaisong received shrapnel wounds to his right chest. He was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Yala Hospital.

Police believed the bomb, weighing 10-15 kg, was placed by insurgents targeting security patrols.
