Ariya back in the mix

Ariya back in the mix

SAMMAMISH, WASHINGTON - In one of her most impressive performances yet, Ariya "Nong May" Jutanugarn shook off a horrendous second round, shot a three-under par 68 on Saturday (US time) and rocketed back up near the lead of the Women's PGA Championship for the final round.

After a workmanlike one-under par 70 on Day 1, Ariya shot a disastrous 75 on Friday and dropped 19 places into 23rd spot, and looked to have no chance.

Shooting for her fourth consecutive win on the LPGA Tour and her first victory in a major, Nong May came roaring back on Saturday.

She now sits in a tie for 4th place in the tournament, but only two shots behind leader Lydia Ko of Australia. Americans Brittany Lincicome and Gerina Piller are a shot behind Ko.

Tied with Ariya at even par for the three rounds are five of the world's top golfers, all of whom will be in contention on Sunday - Amy Yang, Chella Choi and Mirim Lee of Korea, Swedish ace Anna Nordqvist and sensational young Brooke Henderson of Canada.

Ariya will tee off for the final round at 12:05pm (2:05am Monday, Thailand time) in a threesome with Yang and Nordqvist.

No other Thai, among eight entries, has a realistic shot at winning the $3 million tournament. Ariya's sister Moriya was tied for 23rd spot after three rounds.

All six of the other Thai competitors failed to make the cut.
