Pattaya: The Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC) is proud to have been chosen as the host venue for the Optimist World Championships 2017.

Home to Thailand's first national championships over half a century ago and with experience hosting major international regattas, the RVYC was voted as the ideal sailing venue by international delegates for next year's IODA World Optimist event.

The tournament will take place from July 11-21.

Based in the resort town, the RVYC promises exhilarating and enjoyable races with prevailing south-westerly winds adding real excitement.

Azure waters and plenty of sunshine are guaranteed for the international teams and young talented sailors.

RVYC Commodore Tom Whitcraft is looking forward to adding to the club's calendar of events.

"We are extremely proud that the RVYC has the opportunity to host the Optimist World Championships 2017 and showcase Thailand as a great venue for international sailing events," he said.

"We first held the event back in 1979 and it is great that the RVYC has chosen to be a venue again. We are really lucky in Thailand to have good weather for sailing all year round."
