SCG Muang Thong United thrashed Chonburi 3-0 on Saturday night to assure themselves another week-long stay at the top of the Thai League.

The win gave the Kirins an unassailable four-point lead over second-placed Bangkok United, who were due to face Ratchaburi at home late last night.

Suphanburi saw their star midfielder Charyl Chappuis strike form and net a brace but it was not enough to avoid a 3-2 loss at the hands of struggling Samut Prakan.

Buriram United showed no mercy to bottom-ranked BBCU as they romped to a 4-0 victory at I-Mobile Stadium. Bruno Moreira (33), Diogo Luis Santo (64), Kaio Goncalvez (81) and Anon Amornlertsak (90) scored for Buriram.

Muang Thong had an early goal when Teerasil Dangda played a through ball which set up Adisak Kraisorn to score from a close range in the second minute.

The Kirins doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Peerapat Notechaiya set up Michael N'dri for a long shot that landed in the Chonburi net.

The fate of the match was sealed before half-time with Muang Thong picking up their third goal when a Sarach Yooyen cross was guided into the net by Adisak.

During the last fifteen minutes of the match, Muang Thong could have piled more agony on the Sharks on the counter-attack when Chanathip Songkrasin set up N'dri, whose shot was blocked by Chonburi's Kim Jong-Pil.

Muang Thong coach Totchtawan Sripan said: "It was another match in which our players were able to execute the game plan very effectively.

"It was a big game for us and by winning it we continue to top the league standings."

Chonburi coach Therdsak Chaiman said: "We have to accept our loss. Muang Thong are a good and strong team. Although we had several chances to score, we could not convert them and lost the match by a big margin."

At Thung Talay Luang Stadium, hosts Sukhothai saw Renan Marguez score the winning goal in the 34th minute against Nakhon Ratchasima.

Chiang Rai United picked three important points by edging Army United 2-1 at the United Stadium on Saturday night.

Bruno Wellington scored both goals for Chiang Rai in the 32nd and 73rd minutes, while Josimar Souza netted the only goal for Army.
