Russia's fencers take gold, silver in women's sabre

RIO DE JANEIRO - Fencer Yana Egorian claimed Russia's second gold of the Rio Olympics defeating compatriot Sofiya Velikaya 15-14 a closely contested women's sabre final on Monday.

Russia's Yana Egorian celebrates winning against Russia's Sofya Velikaya in the women's individual sabre gold medal bout on August 8, 2016

The defeat was doubly heartbreaking for seven-time world champion Velikaya as she also missed out on gold in the final in London four years ago.

Ukraine's Olga Kharlan claimed bronze with a 15-10 win over France's Manon Brunet.
