RIO DE JANEIRO - Chatuphum Chinnawong came within a whisker of winning an Olympics medal for the second straight Olympics Wednesday, when he finished fourth yet again.

Lifting in the 77kg division, he finished in fourth place Wednesday behind lifters from Kazakhstan, China and Egypt.

But for Chatuphum, it was his second Olympic heartbreak. At Beijing four years ago, he also finished fourth, also in the 77kg division.

Thais have taken two gold medals, a silver and a bronze in weightlifting so far, and Chatuphum was hoping to be the fifth medallist but fell five kilogrammes short.

The Nakhon Ratchasima native won a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games, when he lifted a total of 353kg in the same weight division.

Results 1. Nijat Rahimov (Kazakhstan) 379
2. Lu Xiaojun (China) 379
3. Mohamed Ihab Youssef (Egypt) 361
4. Chatuphum Chinnawong (Thailand) 356
5. Alexandr Spac (Moldova) 347
