The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) yesterday announced the 23-member national squad for third-round Asia Zone World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia on Sept 1 and Japan five days later.

Thai-Swiss midfielder Charyl Chappuis made a comeback to the national team after a two-year absence due to a recurring knee injury, while Siroch Chatthong, from second-tier Leauge One side Ubon UMT United, was picked to join the side for the first time.

Midfielder Sanrawat Dechmitr of Bangkok United, who is nursing an injury, was not named in the team, which remain mostly unchanged from the squad which topped their second-round group and made it to the final stage of the qualifying tournament for the 2018 World Cup.

Thailand, who are in Group B of the 12-team stage, play their first match in Saudi Arabia before taking on Asian giants Japan at Bangkok's Rajamangala National Stadium.

The players will depart for training in Doha on Sunday.
