Veteran Udorn Duangdecha first staged a fantastic rally to write off a seven-shot deficit and then edged amateur Kamalas Namuagrak in a play-off to win the 3.2-million-baht All Thailand Premier Championship 2016 yesterday.
Udorn trailed overnight leader Thepbadin Amaranan by a massive margin of seven strokes but he made a flawless final-round 64 with eight birdies at the par-72 Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club for a total of 12-under 276, which put him on top of the leaderboard.
Young Kamalas, who started the final day one shot off the pace, faltered with a bogey on the second hole but fought back with three birdies to join Udorn at the top and force a play-off.
On the second play-off hole, the par-five 18th, Udorn sank a birdie putt to win the title.
Udorn claimed the winner's purse of 450,000 baht to stay perched on top of the All Thailand Golf Tour money list with his earnings grossing up to 1,213,375 baht after seven tournaments.
Kamalas, being an amateur, was not entitled to any prize money hence Ratchapol Jantavara, who posted a 67 with five birdies to finish third on 277, took home 277,500 baht.
Overnight leader Thepbadin, who led by one shot after three rounds, finished fourth on 10 under.
The 31-year-old from Chiang Rai turned on 38 with one birdie, one bogey and a double bogey, but managed to recover on the back nine to end the day with a 73. Thepbadin earned 171,000 baht.
Gunn Charoenkul carded a 70 to share fifth on nine under with Varanyu Rattanaphaibulki (71). They received 126,000 baht each.
Former Thailand national team player Tawan Phongphun made seven birdies and one bogey for a 66 to move up from joint 19th to share sixth spot with Jakraphan Premsirigorn (73) on 280. They pocketed 84,825 baht each.
One stroke further back was a group of three players including Pawin Ingkhapradit (70), amateur Akedanai Ponghathaikul (71) and Thaworn Wiratchant (72).
Thailand's former tennis star Paradorn Srichaphan, who switched to golf four years ago after retiring from the professional ATP Tour, finished tied for 53rd in the 59-player field.
After making the cut for the first time in a tour event, Paradorn yesterday registered a disappointing final-round 80, which gave him a 298 total.
The next leg of the tour will be the All Thailand Championship at Lamchabang International Country Club in Chon Buri on Sept 8-11.
