Kwanpichit to face Zou for flyweight title in Las Vegas

Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym will fight Zou Shiming of China for the vacant WBO flyweight title in Las Vegas on Nov 5, the Thai boxer's camp said yesterday.

The Thai, ranked third in the 112-pound division, and the two-time Olympic champion will fight for the title vacated by Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico, who has moved up to the junior bantamweight class.

"The fight has been confirmed," said Kwanpichit's manager Pariyakorn Rattanasuban.

"It is a good chance for Kwanpichit to become a world champion.

"They fought each other two years ago and know each other quite well."

The 35-year-old Buri Ram fighter was well beaten by Zou in November 2014 in what has been his only loss against 39 wins (24KOs) and two draws.

Pariyakorn said she was happy that another one of her fighters would challenge for a world title after Pungluang Sor Singyu lost his WBO bantamweight belt to Marlon Papales of the Philippines in July.

However, with only a month to go before the fight, she admitted that it will be hard to get Kwanpichit prepared in time.

"Kwanpichit has learned a lot from the first fight and has improved a lot," Pariyakorn said.

"He is better in terms of power and speed. But it is not easy to fight Zou who is really fast.

"However, it is the best chance for Kwanpichit to become a world champion."

Meanwhile, it will be a second world title shot for Zou, 35, after he lost to then-IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand in Macau last year in the Chinese's only loss in his eight-fight professional career.

The Kwanpichit v Zou fight will be an undercard for Manny Pacquiao's comeback bout against Jessie Vargas at the Thomas and Mack Center.
