Thailand will host the 2016 World Club Golf Championship at Ayodhya Links in Ayutthaya from Dec 7-9, organisers said yesterday.
Pitak Intrawityanunt, chairman of the organising committee, told a press conference it was an honour for both Thailand and the club to host the competition, which will feature teams from 15 countries.
"Besides golf, the event will also benefit the Thai tourism sector as the visitors will experience the country's rich culture and its natural attractions," he said.
He added there will also some selected activities to showcase Thailand's cultural heritage and history, including those depicting the finest Thai traditions, food and attractions of the past and present capitals of the Kingdom -- Ayutthaya and Bangkok.
As for the golf course designed by Peter Thomson, Pitak confirmed the players would face a tough challenge because each hole has a unique layout. He added that the course is in exceptional condition with fast greens.
David Smith, a representative of the World Club Championship Committee, said the tournament is a first-class competition staged at a different venue, handpicked from the top 100 courses in the world, each year.
Ayodhya Links is the only Southeast Asian course among the world's top 100 this year rated by GOLF magazine.
