Glasgow thump Leicester in Champions Cup opener

PARIS - Glasgow launched their European Champions Cup campaign with a crushing 42-13 victory over English Premiership side Leicester at Scotstoun on Friday.

The Leicester Tigers must rebound quickly after their loss to Glasgow ahead of next weekend's clash at home to French champions Racing 92

Leonardo Sarto ran in a pair of tries with Fraser Brown, Henry Pyrgos and Mark Bennett also crossing the whitewash for Glasgow as they claimed a bonus-point win in Pool 1.

Brendon O'Connor's early try had nudged the visiting Tigers, twice former European champions, ahead but the Warriors responded with three tries in eight minutes to enter half-time with a 22-13 advantage.

Intercept tries from Scotland centre Bennett and Italy wing Sarto took the game away from Leicester after the interval, with Finn Russell adding 14 points with the boot on top of a booming Stuart Hogg penalty.

With only the winners of each pool guaranteed to reach the knockout stages, Leicester must rebound quickly ahead of next weekend's clash at home to French champions Racing 92.

Irish side Munster, winners of the competition in 2006 and 2008, complete a formidable group line-up.

Holders Saracens begin the defence of their title with a heavyweight battle against three-time champions Toulon in Pool 3 on Saturday.
