In a quick change of heart, Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang has recalled Suphanburi midfielder Charyl Chappuis for training with the national squad.
Kiatisak axed Chappuis from the national teams which face Australia in Thailand's fifth Group B match of Asia's final phase of 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Nov 15 and then take part in the AFF Suzuki Cup (Southeast Asian championship), which commences four days later.
No reason was given for dropping Thai-Swiss Chappuis from the two teams.
Kiatisak yesterday announced that he was adding four players to the training camp for the Suzuki Cup.
They are Natsapol Malaphan (Chonburi), Sivapong Charoensil (Si Sa Ket), Chappuis (Suphanburi) and Jenrop Sampaodi (BEC Tero Sasana).
"The reason that we have called up these four players to join the 23-member team named earlier is to create a back-up for the Suzuki Cup," Kiatisak said.
"We are expecting a tough game against the Australians at Rajamangala [National Stadium] in Bangkok.
"These World Cup qualifiers are always keenly fought affairs, so there is a big chance of one or more players sustaining injuries.
"We just want to have a pool of quality players ready to join the squad in case there are any injuries to the key players."
Kiatisak added: "Natsapol Malaphan and Sivapong Charoensil have made the national team for the first team and we hope that they will be able to get along well with the other players.
"If they do well during training, they can be part of the Suzuki Cup team.
"Chappuis and Jenrop have played for the national team so they should not have any problems settling down."
The national team will go Bangkok's Grand Palace to pay respects to His Majesty the King on Friday before leaving for their training camp at the Kirin Valley in Khao Yai.
Kiatisak, a former national striker, said: "After reporting on Friday morning at the Emerald hotel, the team and the staff coaches will go to pay their respects to His Majesty the King at the Grand Palace in the afternoon.
"We will leave for the Kirin Valley the following day for training and return to Bangkok on Nov 13 for the match against the Australians. We will train at Rajamangala on Nov 14 before the match on Nov 15."
The Asean Football Federation (AFF) allows each nation to send a maximum 22 players, so the Thai national team will have to be trimmed some time after the Nov 15 game with Australia.
