Teerasil says Thais ready for Myanmar

Striker Teerasil Dangda is aiming to get a result, or at least an away goal, when Thailand play Myanmar in Yangon in the first leg of their Suzuki Cup semi-final on Sunday.

The second leg at Bangkok's Rajamangala National Stadium will take place on Dec 8.

Thailand captain Teerasil has returned to form scoring five goals over the past few weeks to end a goal drought with the national side.

He scored a hat-trick in Thailand's 4-2 win over Indonesia in the Suzuki Cup first round after netting twice in Thailand's 2-2 draw with Australia in a World Cup qualifier.

"We are ready for Myanmar," Teerasil said yesterday.

"We must try to get a good result or score an away goal in the first leg. This would give us an advantage in the second leg."

Arguably Thailand's best striker of his generation, Teerasil has never won the Suzuki Cup title.

He was not in the Thai team that lifted the Southeast Asian championship trophy two years ago.

That triumph ended Thailand's 12-year title drought at the Asean tournament.

Thailand coach Kiatisak Senamuang said the Myanmar players are strong but he believes his men can handle them.

"We are practising our tactics for the Myanmar game,'' said Kiatisak.

"Myanmar players have played together for a long time and many were in their junior side that played in the Fifa U20 World Cup last year.

"They are strong and good. If they were not good, they would not have reached the semi-finals."

Third-choice goalkeeper Chanin Sae-ear is Thailand's only injured player at the moment.

The Thais are training at Kirin Valley in Khao Yai and will leave for Yangon tomorrow.
