LONDON: A hat-trick by Harry Kane helped power Tottenham Hotspur to a 4-0 home victory, their sixth straight Premier League win, against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The victory, coming on the heels of an upset of leaders Chelsea, lifts Spurs into second place, a point ahead of Liverpool and Manchester City, pending the outcome of later matches. West Brom lie eighth with 29 points.

Kane, who became a father for the first time last Sunday, could have had even more goals as Spurs coasted to a surprisingly easy win, their seventh straight in all competitions.

The forward's crisply finished goal after 12 minutes was the prelude to total Spurs domination and he came close to adding to his tally several times in the first half, with the excellent Ben Foster tipping one shot against the post.

Gareth McAuley, in an ill-fated 200th West Brom appearance, inadvertently deflected Christian Eriksen's 26th minute shot past Foster, and Kane struck again with two sharp volleys in the last 15 minutes, the hat-trick goal coming from a lovely Dele Alli assist, to take his season's tally to 15 in all competitions.

Kane became Tottenham’s fastest player to 60 Premier League goals with his first-half strike. He reached the milestone in just his 99th Premier League appearance for the club, compared with 107 matches for Teddy Sheringham, 156 for Robbie Keane and 165 for Jermain Defoe.

The only negative for Spurs came just after the hour mark, as defender Jan Vertonghen was forced off, having appeared to have turned his ankle.
