SINGAPORE - Prayad Marksaeng shot a 4-under 67 in the final round to win the 51st annual Singapore Open by one shot on Sunday, clinching a place in the British Open in the process.

The Hua Hin native turns 51 next Monday, matching the age of the Open. The win was his 10th Asian Tour victory.

Prayad's closing birdie on 18 proved decisive as it gave him a one-shot advantage and also the clubhouse lead.

He had to wait two hours while the rest of the field were still out at the Sentosa Golf Club trying to pip him to the title.

His four-day total of nine-under-par 275 held up for the victory.

Thailand's Phachara Khongwatmai, South Africa's Jbe Kruger, Philippines Juvic Pagunsan and defending champion Younghan Song of Korea all had their chances in the final round, each falling short in turn.

The quartet finished in a tie for second place, a shot behind Prayad. All also qualified for the British Open.

World No.7 and third-round leader Adam "Great" Scott of Australia had a round to forget, signing off with a 74 after splashing his shot on the 17th hole.
