Hernandez vows to KO Nawaphon

Mexico's Juan Hernandez has vowed to knock out Thailand's Nawaphon Nakornloung when they clash for the vacant WBC flyweight title at Bangkok's Nimibutr Stadium on Saturday.

Juan Hernandez of Mexico.

The 30-year-old Mexican, who arrived in the Thai capital two days ago, has fought 35 times with a record of 33 wins (24KOs) and two losses.

After training for a few rounds for the media yesterday, Hernandez said: "I have come here to win. Nawaphon is a good boxer but I am confident that I will win by a knockout."

He said he received moral support from his compatriot, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, before travelling to Thailand.

"Many Mexicans will watch me on TV so I will fight for them. I don't have any problems with the weather here."

After watching Hernandez train, Nakornloung Promotion boss Surachart Pisitwuttinun said the Mexican has fast hands and a powerful left.

But he is confident that his fighter will win the belt.

"Nawaphon is 10cm taller and will be fighting in front of home supporters," he said. "I am sure that Nawaphon won't disappoint Thai fans."

Unbeaten Nawaphon, 25, has won all of his 36 fights (28KOs).

The WBC 112-pound title became vacant after champion Roman Gonzalez of Mexico moved up to the super-flyweight (115-pound) class.

Currently, Thailand has only two world champions in Wanheng Menayothin (WBC minimumweight) and Knockout CP Freshmart (WBA minimumweight).

Knockout will defend his title against Japan's Go Odaira in Chon Buri tomorrow.
