Leesaw comes in, Chappuis goes out

Rajevac announces 35 probables for Thai side

Thailand's new coach Milovan Rajevac has given veteran Teerathep 'Leesaw' Winothai another shot at making the national team but shut the door on several regulars including Charyl Chappuis.

Bangkok United forward Teerathep Winothai.

Rajevac yesterday announced a list of 35 players to undergo a five-day encampment before the 23-strong national squad is announced early next month.

Thailand are scheduled to face Uzbekistan in a friendly in Tashkent on June 6 before playing a World Cup qualifier against the United Arab Emirates a week later at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok.

Apart from Chappuis, Kroekrit Thaweekarn, Prathun Chuthong, Praweenawat Boonyong, Prakit Deeprom, Jakkraphan Kaewprom, Koravit Namwiset and Chanin Sae-ear failed to impress Rajevac and were not called up for the camp.

Thai-Swiss midfielder Chappuis has had an unconvincing spell with Thai League 1 side Suphanburi this season amid reports that he wants a move to a bigger club.

Suphanburi have rubbished the reports.

Teerathep, who is having a fine run with Bangkok United in Thai League 1 this year, has been recalled to the national setup after a lapse of three years.

Teerathep said: "I am very happy to make a return to the national camp. I am 100 percent fit at the moment. The most important thing is that there is a great understanding between the Thai players which will get even better during the Uzbekistan trip."

Chalermpong Kerdkaew, Kevin Deeromram, Chalermsak Aukkee Phansa Hemwiboon, Chutipol Thongtae, Chaiwat Buran and Peeradon Chumratsamee have been given the chance to make the national side for the first time.

Serbia's Rajevac said: "The training camp will start on May 29 and after that there will be two matches -- the friendly with Uzbekistan and the World Cup qualifier against the UAE.

"It is a good opportunity for us to have these 35 players. I want to know more about these players. I have only watched them perform in Thai League 1, but would want to have a closer look in the training camp. After that, we will trim the squad to 23 players.

"The players who failed to make the list should not worry as they will get their chance in the future. I still need to attend more matches to spot new players. I repeat that every player with potential will get an equal opportunity to make the Thai national team."
