The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) confirmed yesterday that North Korea, Burkina Faso and Belarus will join the Kingdom in the four-team King's Cup tournament next month.

The annual tournament will take place on July 14 and 16 at Bangkok's Rajamangala National Stadium and will be televised live on Thai Rath TV.

FAT president Somyot Poompunmuang said yesterday: "We are expecting Thailand to win the prestigious tournament this time, but it might not be easy."

He added: "All three foreign teams hold higher Fifa rankings than Thailand and are all strong sides. We will be banking on the support of the crowd.

"We have lined up teams which are ranked higher than us because a draw or win against them will not only help boost our rankings but will also give our players the opportunity to learn from playing against stronger oppositions.

"Our players are ready and committed to put in their best in the tournament. I am confident that the Thai football fans will witness some exciting and high-quality matches at this year's King's Cup."

Thailand are coached by Serbia's Milovan Rajevac.
