Prayad set for US Senior Open debut

Singapore Open champion Prayad Marksaeng embarks on a 'major' odyssey this week with three leading events in a month.

He will play the US Senior Open at Salem Country Club, the British Open at Royal Birkdale and the British Senior Open at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.

The 51-year-old Thai is bang in form after back-to-back victories on the Japan Senior Tour and a joint sixth-place finish in the Queen's Cup on home soil over the past month.

He will be making his debut at the US Senior Open and is eagerly anticipating mixing it with the best senior players in the world.

"This is my first time at the US Senior Open and I am quite excited as this is a 'major' event on the senior tour calendar with many good players participating," he said.

"I hope I can perform well here. I practised over 18 holes earlier in the week.

"Salem Country Club is a very nice golf course and it is quite similar to courses in Japan where I play the majority of my golf. The greens here are challenging. I hope my approach shots are good to take the pressure off my putting. I worked a lot on my putting before I came here and I hope it [putting] works. If it does my result this week should be great."

Prayad finished tied for 11th at the Senior PGA Championship in May.

In January, Prayad eclipsed his younger rivals with a final round four-under-par 67 to lift his 10th Asian Tour title at the Singapore Open.

That victory won him a place in the British Open from July 20-23 and the following week he will compete in the British Senior Open.
