The eighth-seeded Thai received a bye in the first round after the draw was made at the BWF headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.
She will face either Wendy Chen Hsuan-yu of Australia or Yap Rui Chen of Malaysia in the second round.
World No.9 Ratchanok became the youngest ever world champion at the age of 18 in 2013.
Fellow Thai Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, who is seeded 11th in the tournament, faces Dutch player Nick Fransman in the first round of the men's singles.
Tanongsak, the only other Thai in the tournament, could face world No.1 Son Wan-Ho of South Korea in the third round. Top seed Son starts his campaign against Kalle Koljonen of Finland.
Japanese world No.2 Yamaguchi, who has been seeded No.1 in the absence of top-ranked Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan, also has a first-round bye.

Spain's two-time champion Carolina Marin will face either Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong or Natalia Perminova of Russia in the second round.
Men's defending champion Chen Long and Lee Chong Wei could meet in the last eight.
Two-time champion Chen of China, who thwarted Lee's ambitions in the 2014 and 2015 finals as well as last year's Rio 2016 Olympic Games decider, starts his campaign against Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius, while Malaysia's Lee takes on Frenchman Brice Leverdez.
