Phuket run to benefit turtles

The annual Mai Khao Turtle Fun Run Across the Sea and Mini Marathon 2017 will return to Phuket to help promote the conservation of endangered sea turtles, on Oct 8 from 5.30am-7.30am.

Organised by JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa in collaboration with the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation, the 13th edition of the fundraising event is open to runners of all ages, and will start and finish at the spectacular Phuket Gateway.

The event offers three races to choose from: a 2.5km family run, a 5.3km fun run and a 10.2km mini-marathon. The route will encompass the beauty of Had Sai Kaew beach, Ban Ta Chat Chai and the village. The mini-marathon will span the iconic Sarasin Bridge to Phangnga province, back and forth.

The first five finishers of both the fun run and the mini-marathon, in both male and female categories, will be awarded cash prizes and trophies. There will also be trophies for the hotel and running club with the most participants, as well as the heaviest, oldest and youngest runners. All runners who can make it to the finish line will receive a medal.

Entry fee is 1,200 baht per family (two adults and two children aged under 12 years) for the family run, 350 baht per person for the fun run (1,500 baht for VIP runners) and 350 baht per person for the mini-marathon.

All proceeds will go towards the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation which is committed to protecting the marine and coastal environment and ecosystems for the well-being of the sea turtles that nest in the Mai Khao beach and the surrounding areas.
