The Football Association of Thailand has announced the winner of a contest to design the national team's new logo.

The logo, designed by Torpong Buranapichate, received 42% of votes from fans, ahead of those of Pisuth Kongkit and Adiet Firmansyah, the FAT said yesterday.

Torpong will get 100,000 baht in prize money, while Pisuth and Firmansyah will each receive 30,000 baht.

Competition to design the team's winning logo was fierce.

However, the FAT is open to complaints that the three logos may not be original designs.

Those who have evidence that the designers may have picked up their ideas form other people's work can complain to the FAT at info@fathailand.org within 15 days of yesterday's announcement.

The FAT has hired Interbrand to oversee the use of the new logo, according to FAT spokesman Pathit Supapong.

The three logos were among five finalists picked by a committee of experts from more than 1,000 entries.

The FAT said the contest was initiated as it wanted a new logo to go with the national team's nickname the War Elephants.

It said the original logo -- a crown -- which was approved by King Rama VI, who founded the organisation in 1916, will be used only on special occasions.
