Kiatisak Senamuang announced his resignation as coach of Thai League 1 side Port after his men suffered a 3-1 home loss to Chonburi on Wednesday night.

"I want the team to move forward," the former national team boss said at the post-match press conference.

"I have to shoulder responsibility as promised. I thought I would review my performance at the end of the season but the fans could not wait.

"I'd like to thank Port fans and wish the team well."

He said he would consider offers from clubs and countries.

Kiatisak said before the match that he would quit if Port failed to beat Chonburi.

Affectionately called "Zico" by the Thai media and fans, Kiatisak quit as coach of the national team a few months ago following heavy defeats in World Cup qualifiers.

Port chairperson Nualphan Lamsam then appointed him coach of the Thai League 1 team.

Under Kiatisak, Port had only one win, three draws and five defeats in the league.

On the other hand, Chonburi coach Therdsak Chaiman, Kiatisak's friend, felt relieved as it was reported that he could be sacked if the Sharks failed to get a result.

At PAT Stadium, Brazilian forward Josimar gave Port the lead after 13 minutes and Ghanaian striker Prince Amponsah equalised for the visitors shortly after the interval.

Chonburi went in front after Renan Marques scored in the 74th minute.

Port's Nittipong Selanont was sent off with seven minutes to go and Amponsah put the match beyond any doubts with a late strike.

In other early games, Super Power Samut Prakan's woes continued when they suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Suphanburi.

Super Power have only one point from 28 games this season.

At United Stadium, hosts Chiang Rai hammered Sukhothai 6-0.

At Nokhon Ratchasima, the hosts drew 1-1 with Navy.
