SCG Muang Thong United face a potential banana-skin Toyota League Cup clash with fellow Thai League 1 giants Bangkok United on Sunday.

Title favourites Buriram United, who have been in great form, also have a tough last-16 round fixture as they are scheduled to take on Chonburi, one of the leading clubs in the top league.

Muang Thong coach Totchtawan Sripan said: "We recently beat Bangkok United 4-0 in a Thai League 1 match, but this is a different tournament and a different game.

"I think they must have gained a lot of confidence after beating Port 5-1 in the FA Cup in midweek.

"However, we will be playing at our home ground and winning this match is the only way we can progress to the quarter-finals.

"It should be an exciting game for both teams."

Heberty Fernandes scored a hat-trick in Muang Thong's victory over Bangkok United in their meeting in the league last week.

Muang Thong are currently second in the league behind Buriram.

Bangkok United manager Chanita Jantarasap said: "Muang Thong are a strong team with a number of national team players.

"It will not be an easy game for us because they will be playing at their home ground, but we still have high hopes for a victory."

Meanwhile, Buriram manager Tatthep Pitakpoolsin reiterated that the Thunder Castle are targeting a sweep of all three local trophies.

"Every time we play with Chonburi, it is never an easy game for us, but we are in a confident mood," said Tatthep.

"We must beat Chonburi if we hope to win every trophy. We have the confidence to do that."

Chonburi's media director Jeerasak Chomthong said: "It will be a tough game for us as Buriram are a strong team and they are having a good run.

"We are experiencing a low at the moment and our team's performance of late has not been very good.

"We are the underdogs but this is the only trophy left for us this season, so we will be making an all-out effort to win it."

A total of 11 Thai League 1 sides are in the last-16 stage of the League Cup with the other seven clubs being Chiang Rai United, Ratchaburi Mitr Phol, Police Tero, Pattaya United, Port, Ubon UMT United and Sukhothai.

The remaining five teams -- PTT Rayong, Nong Bua Pichaya, Rayong, PT Prachuab and Airforce Central -- are all from Thai League 2.

The tournament uses a straight knock-out format and the winners will be rewarded with a cash prize of five million baht. The runners-up will receive one million baht.

SWAT CATS ON THE PROWL

Nakhon Ratchasima travel to Min Buri today to take on Thai Honda in a Thai League 1 clash.

This match was scheduled to be played last weekend but was postponed due to the waterlogged pitch.

Newcomers Thai Honda are currently in 17th place in the 18-team league and with only 20 points to their credit, they have a very slim chance of extending their stay in the top flight at the end of this season.

The Swat Cats are in 14th place with 31 points.

The northeastern side will be without Ekkanat Kongket, who is suspended, but will have Kritsada Hemvipat back.

The match will kick off at 6pm.
