WBC "interim" light-flyweight champion Nongmuay Kokietgym has to score an impressive win over Chinese challenger Che Hoy Wa today to stand any chance of getting a title shot in September.
Champion Nongmuay Kokietgym, right, and China’s Che Hoy Wa.
The Nakhon Ratchasima boxer will defend her interim title in Nong Khai and could have a championship bout against "real" champion Naomi Togashi of Japan later this year.
However, promoter Kokiet Panichyarom said that if Nongmuay doesn't triumph convincingly she will have to wait longer for a fight against the Japanese.
"She will only be assured of a title shot with a good display," said Kokiet.
The promoter believes his boxer will have few problems against the little-known Chinese.
Nongmuay won the "interim" belt after a points victory over Korea's Dan Bi Kim in a controversial fight in January.
The Korean had points deducted five times and also bit the Thai.
On today's undercard, Buarimbueng Kokietgym will make the first defence of her WBC Asian atomweight title against Sai Ping Yan of China.
The 16-year-old unbeaten Thai is confident that she will stop her 19-year-old opponent within four rounds.
The card will be live on Channel 3 from 2.30 pm.
