The Thailand Rugby Sevens will take place at the Royal Thai Police Sports Club, Bangkok on Feb 10-11.
The tournament, which was moved back from last year due to flooding, features eight teams - Japan, Hong Kong, Pakistan, UAE, Philippines, Malaysia, Laos and Thailand. It is divided into two groups of four teams each and played in a round-robin format. Group winners will be in the final for the Cup while the second placed teams are eligible for the Plate. The teams in third place are vying for the Bowl.
Kulthon Prachuabmoh, secretary of the Rugby Football Association of Thailand, said that most of the Thai players are young and inexperienced. "Therefore, the team's target is to make it into the final of the Plate," he said.
"We are cultivating these players and hope they will shine in the 2014 Asian Games and the 2016 Olympic Games," he added when asked about the 15 players being coached by Ekthanyawit Kruasin.
"Either Malaysia or the Philippines are likely to be our opponents in the final."
