Patrice Ciprelli, husband and coach of French cyclist Jeannie Longo, spent around 15,000 euros on 15 purchases of EPO since 2007, a source told AFP on Friday, fuelling a theory of "permanent doping", a claim denied by Ciprelli.
French cyclist Jeannie Longo (R) talks with her husband and former coach Patrice Ciprelli (L) in 2011. Police in Grenoble discovered that Ciprelli spent 19,800 dollars (approximately 15,000 euros) on 15 purchases of the banned performance-booster EPO (erythropoietin) since 2007, a source close to the investigation told AFP on Friday.
Prosecutors in Grenoble had stated Thursday that only two purchases were made in May and June 2011 respectively, both for less than 500 euros apiece.
