World Cup leader Ivica Kostelic underwent successful knee cartilage surgery Monday and could be back on slopes in early March if his rehabilitation goes on as planned, the Croatian ski association said.
Croatia's Ivica Kostelic cries due to a knee injury on the podium after winning the Men's Super Combined World Cup, at the Rosa Khutor Mountain Resort near Sochi, on February 12. Kostelic's bid to defend his overall World Cup title has been thrown into doubt after he suffered a knee cartilage injury in the season's last super-combined race.
During the surgery, performed in a Basel clinic, in Switzerland, doctors have removed a part of his right knee cartilage, it said in a statement.
