Buakaw facing ban after Thai Fight involvement

Muay Thai ace Buakaw Por Pramuk and the organisers of the Thai Fight event could be suspended for six months for violating boxing laws, according to the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT).

Buakaw is still under contract with the Por Pramuk camp but took part in a Thai Fight event in Pattaya on Tuesday night without the approval of his former camp.

SAT deputy governor Sakol Wannapong said yesterday that Thai Fight organisers had initially confirmed that Buakaw would not participate in the event but that was later ignored.

"They violated the Boxing Act because they did not get written approval from Buakaw's camp," said Sakol.

"However, an injured party must file a suit against Buakaw and the Thai Fight organisers," Sakol added.

"Yet this is not a criminal case and Buakaw will not face a jail term."

After stopping Rustem Zaripov of Russia in the second round in Pattaya, Buakaw said he wanted to please the fans and was ready to go to jail.

Pramuk Rojanatan, owner of the Por Pramuk camp, said he would hold a press conference soon in order to "tell the truth."

He also confirmed that his son Theerapath was preparing documents in order to take legal action.

"People will then know what Buakaw has said is true or not.

"We are still waiting for him to sit down and talk to find a way out," he said.

"This is the worst moment of my life. I have to protect my reputation after he accused me of taking his prize money."

Buakaw had said last month that he would not fight for the Por Pramuk camp again because he was treated unfairly by the camp.

He went on to add that money was not the main reason for his desire to leave.

However, after Tuesday's bout he said he wanted to part company with the camp for financial reasons.
