Left-armer Johnson has been out of international cricket for six months following foot surgery.

Cummins, 19, is being eased back into elite cricket after missing the entire Australian summer season with a bone stress injury in his heel.

Chief selector John Inverarity said Johnson, 30, who is to play for Durham in this season's English domestic Twenty20 competition, was in contention for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Sri Lanka starting in September.

"Mitchell needs to be in the set-up and have some quality competitive cricket leading into the Twenty20 world cup," Inverarity said.

"The selection panel is looking forward to Mitchell being reinvigorated after being out of the game for six months."

Inverarity said exciting pace bowler Cummins was being eased back into cricket after his man-of-the-match seven-wicket debut in last November's second Johannesburg Test against South Africa.

"We are excited about the return of Cummins and we are looking to ease him back into the team. He will not be expected to play in all of the eight scheduled games," he said.

Australia, to be led by Michael Clarke, are scheduled to play five ODIs against England, another against Ireland in Belfast and two other games against English county opponents.

"We will have to be at the top of our game to go to England and beat them on their home soil but we've selected a strong squad and believe we have the ability to win this one-day series," Inverarity said.

Inverarity said all-rounder Dan Christian was omitted to make way for Johnson, but remained in selectors' plans for the ICC World Twenty20 and the ODIs and T20s against Pakistan in August/September.
