Fifa impressed with kingdom's preparations

Fifa are pleased with Thailand's preparations for the Futsal World Cup in November.

From left, Thai FA boss Worawi Makudi, 2012 Futsal World Cup organising committee chairman Suwat Liptapanlop and Fifa representative Jaime Yarza attend a press conference yesterday.

Fifa futsal and event manager Jaime Yarza told a press conference yesterday that he saw progress in the contruction and renovation of stadiums for the Nov 1-18 tournament.

"We are pleased with the construction and renovation of the venues. The preparations for the tournament have made considerable progress since the last inspection," he said.

"We will report this to Fifa."

The venues under renovation are the Indoor Stadium and Nimibutr Gymnasium and a new stadium in Bangkok's Nong Chok district is also under contruction.

Yarza said he will come back to inspect the venues again next month when Thailand face Spain in a warm-up match.

Yarza also unveiled the ball for the tournament called Tango 12 which is a smaller version of the one used at Euro 2012.

Worawi Makudi, president of the Football Association of Thailand, said the renovation was almost complete and the Nong Chok stadium would be ready as scheduled in October.

SCG set to extend lead

SCG Muang Thong United are looking forward to extending their lead in the Thai Premier League when they travel to relegation contenders Chiang Rai United today.

The Kirins have 34 points, seven more than second-placed Chonburi FC and eight ahead of champions Buriram United.

Muang Thong general manager Ronnarit Suewaja said his team lost to Chiang Rai last season but it would be a different story this time.

"Our players are brimming with confidence and they are looking forward to the match. We expect to win and extend our lead," he said.

Chonburi should also get three points when they visit bottom side TTM Chiang Mai today.

Buriram travel to TOT SC tomorrow. The Thunder Castle need a win to put their title hopes back on track after a string of poor results including a defeat at Thai Port last week.
