Muang Thong league triumph a bitter pill

Buriram United are determined to retain the League Cup and FA Cup titles after seeing their bitter rivals SCG Muang Thong United win the Thai Premier League crown on the weekend.

Buriram players train at their New I-Mobile stadium ahead of today’s clash with Bangkok Glass.

The Thunder Castle, who also won their first TPL title last season, are in the semi-finals of both Cup competitions. They will host Bangkok Glass in the League Cup semi-final second leg today and meet the same opponents in the FA Cup semi-final next week.

Having won the first leg 3-2, Buriram are in the drivers' seat to reach the League Cup final.

Buriram will be without midfielder Suchao Nutnum but welcome back midfielders Anthony Ampaipitakwong and Surat Sukha and defenders Ekwalla Herman and Pratum Chutong.

"They are a good team and we can't underestimate them," coach Attapol Bussapakom said. "But we are confident that we will be through to the final after we beat them in the first leg. Our players are hungry to win the League Cup and the FA Cup."

Glass manager Supasin Leelarit said it would not be easy for his men to overturn the deficit.

"We will go on the attack from the start. The club will give the players one million baht if they reach the final," he said.

In today's other semi-final, TOT will try to overturn a 1-0 deficit when they host First Division side Ratchaburi.

Muang Thong eye records

Muang Thong want to finish the season unbeaten and set a new points record after winning the TPL title on Sunday with three matches to spare.

Muang Thong director Ronnarit Suewaja said the team would try to beat the three remaining opponents starting with BB-CU tonight.

"Our aim is to secure an unblemished season. We also want to get a record points. Buriram won the title with 85 points last season and we will have 86 if we win all the remaining games," Ronnarit said.

"We have played 31 games and scored in every game so we also want to finish the season by scoring in every game."

BB-CU coach Worachai Surinsirirat said his team had to win to keep alive their slim hopes of staying up.

In today's other match, Wuachon United host Chonburi.
