Fifa says no to new stadium

The Bangkok Futsal Arena is not ready to host the 2012 Futsal World Cup, Fifa said on its website on Tuesday.

The decision was taken after a thorough evaluation by a Fifa inspection group, including safety and security experts, at the the stadium site in Nong Chok district.

Thailand planned to use the 1.2 billion baht stadium stadium to host the quarter-final rounds on Nov 14, the semi-final rounds on Nov 16 and the final on Nov 18.

nitnoi, fantasy mak-mak... "Laos wants to build the dam and sister Thai object this project for fear Laos will be so successful in what it is doing". The opposite is the fact: "The Thai government is not opposed to the project," said Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichachaikul, speaking at the sidelines of the Asia-Europe Meeting in Vientiane, Laos. Source: BP.
In addition, FIFA members have a reputation of being corrupt too.

FIFA members are not Thai. Are they? they can't be fool. Who cares for the nation's face? not the contractors who probably have bribed the big shot in the government. Another unfinished project just like every other big projects in Thailand.Itis very sad.Laos wants to build the dam and sister Thai object this project for fear Laos will be so successful in what it is doing.

Of course nothing will ever Thailand's image - in the eyes of those doing all the damage, because they're blind with greed.
Note that this new stadium wasn't necessary in the first place, and that it has also been criticised for being badly located and difficult to get to. A common issue with Thai mega projects...
Having said that, I would recommend the FIA to think twice - at least - before ever sanctioning Thailand to host a Formula One Grand Prix in 2014.

This is unforgiveable. Heads must be rolled. Some c-3 offcials must be moved to inactive posts.

How did the Engineering Institute of Thailand certify the stadium when the flooring itself was only "completed" hours before the FIFA inspection? The engineers who signed off the documents should be struck off as professional engineers.

Why are US-made wood parquet for the flooring imported from China via a Chinese company owned by Thais? Wouldn't it make more sense to have them purchased directly from the US manufacturer and shipped directly from the US? Don't we have enough wood in Thailand to make the flooring ourselves?

Questions that needs to be answered is, was too much graft taken away from the project, where did the money go and who got the money? A full audit needs to be performed on this project.

D3: If this were to damage Thailand's image, those reporting and discussing it would have to be punished. Because here, this is much worse than creating a source of embarrassment through corruption, negligence and gross incompetence.

This is the first I have ever heard of futsal and the same it appears for many judging from the empty seats I see on TV. It is a far better spectator sport than handball IMO. Another cash cow for FIFA.

It will be interesting to see the spin stories comming out from those responsible. This is no time for politics or partisonship, rather a through investigation and those responsible held to account.
