Man City apologise for Ferdinand derby coin attack

Manchester City have apologised to Rio Ferdinand after the Manchester United defender was struck by a coin as he celebrated his side's 3-2 win in Sunday's Manchester derby.

Manchester United's English defender Rio Ferdinand reacts after being struck by an object thrown from the crowd during the English Premier League football match between Manchester City and Manchester United at The Etihad stadium in Manchester. Ferdinand laughed off the incident that saw him struck in the face by a coin as he celebrated Manchester United's winning goal in their 3-2 success.

The English centre-back was left with blood pouring from his face after being hit by a missile apparently thrown from the crowd in the aftermath of Robin van Persie's injury-time winner for United at the Etihad Stadium.
