Singapore triumph in Suzuki Cup

Singapore won the Asean title for a record fourth time with a 3-2 aggregate win over Thailand despite the Lions' 1-0 loss in the second leg of the AFF Suzuki Cup final on Saturday night.

Thailand striker Kirati Keawsombut scored the only goal on the night in a one-sided match at a packed Supachalasai stadium but it was not enough to overturn Singapore's 3-1 win in the first leg on Wednesday.

It was a repeat of the 2007 final when Singapore won 2-1 in the first leg and held Thailand to a 1-1 draw at Supachalasai stadium in the Bangkok leg.

Played so well with so much heart .. It was a shame that they couldn't draw the game to see what the Singaporians were made of.
I believe if there were level Thailand would have won!

I am think getting to Final is ok but nothing to be proud of, but lose to a nation of 5 million people is make me feel humiliation. Well done to Singapore ka.

One would expect only nationals of the country to be allowed to play. Then again the Thammasat-Chulalongkorn traditional match was ruined a few years ago when Chula began bringing in non-student players from the Thai national team. Money rules these days.

Dis#2, only 3 in Duric, Daniel Bennett and Mustafic. The Singapore team is tight and the midfield is the engine room. Most opponents played to Thai strength but not Singapore who has the best defense. Will be hard to overcome a 2 goal deficit as Singapore will not allow Thai to play their passing game. Anyway, may the best team win tonight.

The team that Zico was in that we are saw Thailand rise to 54 in the world and the team all play the football part time is long gone. Now Thai team look not so strong and 138 in the world and get pay very well.
