Too little, too late as Thais lose AFF final on aggregate

Singapore broke Thai hearts to lift the AFF Suzuki Cup with a 3-2 aggregate win last night.

Thailand won 1-0 in the second leg of the final at Supachalasai Stadium but that was not enough to overturn a 3-1 deficit they suffered in the first leg in Singapore on Wednesday.

Singapore became the first four-time winners of the Southeast Asian championship. The Lions also beat Thailand over two legs in the final to win their third title in 2007.

A valiant performance by the Thai team but they lacked the killer finishing touch ... so many chances were off target and scrappy, although teamwork was good in general. The referee was very lenient ... a staggering number of fouls went unpunished on both sides but it was a very exciting game overall.
