VAT director Charnrit Wongprasert said yesterday that ThaiBev, producer of Chang beer, had agreed to continue its support for the association after the previous deal ended last month.

The company will pay the VAT 25 million baht a year for four years, up from 16.5 million baht a year in the previous contract.

The Thai women's volleyball team have had good results over the past few years and just missed out on securing the country's first-ever Olympic berth in the sport last year.

Charnrit said ThaiBev wanted to help the association seal an Olympic spot at the 2010 Rio Games in Brazil so the company gave it an improved deal.

The contract-signing ceremony will take place soon, he said.

Meanwhile, national team boss Kiattipong Radchatakriagkrai has agreed to coach Igtisadchi Baku in the Azerbaijan women's volleyball super league until the end of the season.

The Baku club, with seven Thai players, are leaders in the seven-team league with a 7-1 record after eight games. The season ends in April and Kiattipong reportedly receives 500,000 baht a month.
